The Flood That Came Over The Night
Overnight between July 14 and 15, 2021, heavy rain turned the normally harmless Ahr river, in the Western part of Germany near Bonn, into a natural disaster flooding the valley and killing 133 people.
With 179 deaths, the floods are the deadliest natural disaster in Germany since the North Sea flood of 1962.
The unexpected natural disaster has thrown its shadow over the German Kansler election and headed the public opinion and urge for more sustainable climate policy.
